Cultural and social centre Caixa Forum of Barcelona is starting this year with great style. In collaboration with Louvre museum of Paris it is organizing the exhibition of great french romantic painter Eugene Delacroix.
From 15th of February till 20th of May Caixa Forum is displaying more than one hundred works of Eugene Delacroix in Barcelona, making it possible to reconstruct his artistic evolution- from the beginning till the final works.
This exhibition represents the most important retrospective of Delacroix paintings organized in Spain in the last 50 years.
It includes some of the classics of our visual culture such as Greece on the Ruins of Missolonghi, one of the sketches of Death of Sardanapalus, The women of Algiers, as well as many of his works specially brought from diverse public and private collections and the most important world institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, London National gallery and The Art Institute of Chicago.
The exhibition is also dedicated to the period Delacroix spent in different cities of Spain on his journees towards North Africa.
Delacroix was very interested in Spanish Art and Goya´s Caprichos in particular. Caprichos influenced greatly drawings and engravings of Delacroix.
This delightful exhibition is a great overture for Goya´s exhibition that follows in March.
As usual, Caixa forum organizes plenty of additional programs related to the exhibition – conferences, guided tours, and activities for all the audiences.
